New Forest Tourism Association
Promoting The New Forest as a quality
year-round holiday and business destination...
NFTA Quality Assessments were introduced in 2007 as an alternative to national quality gradings. All NFTA accommodation members are required to undertake either a national quality grading by Enjoy England or the AA, or a local assessment
Which businesses are eligible for NFTA Assessment? :
All members of the Bed and Breakfast and Self Catering Sector are eligible for NFTA Quality Assessment. Other members such as pubs and inns with accommodation, and small hotels may also be eligible.
How does and NFTA Assessment differ from National Grading? :
National Grading is carried out annually and businesses are given a grading based on the star system 1-5. A mystery guest (an inspector) will make a booking and stay overnight. Sometimes a business may receive a day visit which is made by appointment.
NFTA Quality Assessments are based on the minimum standard of the National Grading Scheme. An NFTA Quality Assessment is carried out bi-annually (unless the business changes hands) and is carried out by the NFTA Membership Liaison Officer or the Chairman of the Bed and Breakfast or Self Catering Group, or an appointed person of that group. No grading is given but the business must meet the required standard as laid down in the assessment programme. On completion a certificate is issued.
How much does an NFTA Assessment cost? :
There is a scale of charges based on numbers of rooms or units. These are as follows:
Bed and Breakfast:
No of Rooms
1-3 Rooms £85
4-9 Rooms £128
10-20 Rooms £191
Self Catering:
£85 per unit. A discount of 10% will apply if more than 2 units are on one site; 20% for 3 or more.
ALL ASSESSMENTS ARE VALID FOR TWO YEARS
Is there a Complaints Procedure? :
The Complaints Procedure is laid down in The Assessment Charter and all assessed businesses sign up to the Charter at the time of Assessment.
